I shot at the Kerner Plus 40 Symposium at North Carolina A&T State University, kicked off by television host Tavis Smiley and scholar Dr. Cornel West. This event marks the 40th Anniversary of the 1968 Kerner Commision report.
The Kerner Commission was the popular name given to the National Advisory Commission on Civil Disorders, chaired by Illinois governor Otto Kerner, Jr. It was also known as riot commission. The 11-member commission was created in July, 1967 by President Lyndon B. Johnson to investigate the causes of the 1967 race riots in the United States.

an oldie but goodie…inspired by a “he loves me” daisy petals image I saw on flickr a while back. I searched for it to give credit but was unsuccessful.

This morning was bright and beautiful and I wanted to revisit a spot I drove by last night that’s not on any of my usual routes. Initially I wanted to shoot the building but didn’t love any of the shots and was wary about its abandoned interior. Once I got on site, I marveled at the water tower and smokestack, the two things left standing.
Since these photos were taken, all structures were demolished.
